Top Live Music Spots in Jamaica

Updated: Nov 28, 2018

You can't take a luxury vacation to Jamaica without getting immersed in music. After all, this is the birthplace of reggae & some of the world's most renowned artists: Bob Marley, Busta Rhymes and Sean Kingston, to name a few. On top of that, Jamaica is famous for having energetic nightlife. Every night of the week here is a party, with street dances, beach concerts & a bevy of other events to keep you entertained until the wee hours of the morning. If you're looking for some live music, you'll have no problem finding it.

Here are some of the top spots in the area:

Blue Beat Situated right on Montego Bay's "hip strip," this bar is truly one-of-a-kind. One thing that sets it apart is the unexpectedly elegant air, thanks to the dim lighting, comfortable seating, chic decor & classy martini menu. The patio lounge out back may be small, but it's worth snagging a spot for a stunning view of the harbor. The sound varies every night, from a Copacabana Latin theme on Fridays, an "unplugged" series of international artists throughout the week & live jazz from the resident band.

Jamnesia Since they began several years ago, the bi-monthly Jamnesia sessions in Bull Bay have one of the most hyped events in all of Jamaica. This is where up-and-coming as well as already established musicians & dancers get to showcase their talents in the humid night air, just steps from the sea. The best part about this open-mic? It's completely free to attend. Stick around after the acts are over for a bonfire, complete with authentic Jamaican food & drinks.

Alfred's It's no surprise that Alfred's has gained a solid reputation as one of the best places for eats & entertainment. After all, this spot has been supplying a satisfying combination of Jerk chicken, live reggae music & local beers for 25 years. This is the place to kick back with a cold Red Stripe while you sway to the beat of live reggae music & look out onto the ocean.

Redbones Blues Cafe If you're seeking outdoor ambience, fantastic Jamaican fusion cuisine & live blues & jazz, you can have it all at Redbones in Kingston. This eatery regularly hosts international music evenings & other eclectic entertainment as well, such as poetry nights & theatrical productions. Hang out on the cozy terrace or have a cocktail in the elegant dining room. Just don't be surprised if you see a well-known artist take the stage – in fact, Tessanne Chin, recent winner of "The Voice," has performed here.
