Three Romantic Dinners in Cancun

Updated: Nov 29, 2018

Whether or not you consider yourself a foodie, Cancun is ripe with spectacular restaurants for a romantic meal that's sure to be memorable for you & your sweetheart. With a range of different kinds of cuisine from Mexican & Italian to French & Yucatecan, there's something for every palate. When you're looking for a truly special meal, though, the ambiance is just as important as the food. Fortunately, several of these establishments offer unparalleled views of the breathtaking Mexican sunsets.

On your next luxury vacation to Cancun, make a reservation at one of these restaurants for an unforgettable meal:

La Habichuela This restaurant has built an impressive reputation since it opened in 1977, & for good reason. Not only is the service impeccable & the menu eclectic, but the setting is stunning. The dining room is filled with interesting paintings & other artwork straight from the private collection of the family owners, Armanti & Clara Pezzotti. The real beauty lies in the sculpture garden, though, where native plants & trees not only look majestic but also smell wonderful. Wherever you sit at La Habichuela, though, you'll savor each blissful bite of the flavorful dishes here, all of which come from recipes that have been passed down through family traditions. Don't miss the fresh fish fillet in a traditional Veracruz sauce of tomato, olives & capers or the cocobichuela, which consists of chunks of lobster & shrimp cooked in a creamy curry sauce & served with rice & tropical fruit.

La Palapa Belga This open-air restaurant may be small, but it's big on romance. Due to its secluded location, La Palapa Belga is also less of a tourist spot, meaning you'll definitely get an intimate experience here. While overlooking the sparkling lagoon, you'll have a multitude of decadent French & Belgian gourmet dishes to choose from, like roasted quail in a sweet grape sauce or a salmon filet with hollandaise. Just make sure to save room for the decadent creme brulée or the Belgian chocolate mousse.

L'escargot You might not expect to find excellent French cuisine in Cancun, but L'escargot will prove you wrong. Off the beaten path on a side street in downtown Cancun, you can be sure that this restaurant is authentic because it's run by a Parisian who moved to this city nearly 30 years ago. In fact, USA Today Travel noted that you may even meet her when you arrive. Though the menu isn't extensive, each dish is made with fresh ingredients & a great attention to detail. Enjoy your dinner under the twinkling lights in the garden surrounded by lush plants & you'll instantly be transported to Paris listening to the soft French music.
