Best Beach Bars in Antigua

Updated: Nov 29, 2018

You could very easily spend an entire day on the beach in Antigua. While basking on the pristine white sand, though, you'll definitely need to take a break for some food or a tropical cocktail. So where should you go to re-fuel? There is a bevy of options, but some offer up a particularly special oceanfront experience.

Here are the top spots to grab a bite or a beverage while on a luxury vacation to Antigua:

Bumpkins It's no wonder Bumpkins is a favorite hangout for locals & visitors alike. With a stunning view across the harbor from inside an enormous covered wooden verandah, the setting provides a pleasant island ambience. That's not all you'll find at Bumpkins, though. The menu, which includes Caribbean specialties like grilled lobster & garlic shrimp, offers heaping portions that will keep you full for the rest of the afternoon. Along with their sizzling hot burgers & fresh fish dishes, you can cool down with an ice cold beer or exotic rum cocktail. By night, Bumpkins transforms into a whole different place, complete with the ever popular "Full Moon" parties right on the beach that go till sun up.

Cecilia's If you're looking for a chic cafe right on the water's edge, look no further than Cecilia's, which is just steps from the sand. The menu has an interesting mix of Caribbean-inspired & French bistro-style cuisine, like cevicé & shrimp salad, warm smoked fresh salmon filet & homemade patés. You're bound to find a refreshing wine to sip on from Cecilias' extensive list, or you might want to try the homemade lemon grass tea, which is made from herbs picked right from the Antiguan rainforest. While sitting on the comfy chairs on the wooden deck, jazz, R&B & soul will play softly in the background, setting a delightful atmosphere.

Millers By The Sea Right on Fort James beach & just a quick stroll from the turquoise water is Millers By The Sea, a local favorite for seafood & reggae. When the sun is a little too strong to take, you can sit under the ceiling fans in the shade. You can't miss with any of the dishes here, including red snapper, conch & Antiguan spiny lobster with rice & vegetables. If you're starting your beach day early, don't miss the brunch, complete with fresh local vegetables & fruit & of course, plantains. Don't miss the Friday night karaoke BBQ & remember that all drinks are half price between 5 p.m. & 9 p.m.
