Excursions Off the Beaten Path

Vacation options for thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies

Stray Away from the Norm

We’ve got you covered—connecting you with vacation experiences as unique as they are enjoyable. We love sending travelers just like you on adventures that make your friends and family jealous. Below, you will find our favorite activities to take your vacation from “We had a good time on the beach” to “I will never forget the adrenaline rush and thrills I had on vacation.” Seriously though, you won’t regret saying “yes” to any of these ideas.

#1: Swim with Sharks

Less popular than you would think, this activity challenges you to look right in the face of death as these sharp-toothed predators look right back at YOU. I guess we can see why this one falls into the “off the beaten path” category—it’s definitely not for the faint of heart.

One of our favorite places to do this is in Mexico. Here, you have options to experience great white sharks with guided tours and excursions…and yes, if you want, shark cages. It ain’t for us, but maybe it IS for you. Another one of our favorites is Compass Cay in the Exumas, Bahamas. Here you’ll find nurse sharks that you can get real up close and personal with, without the risk of a bite as their teeth are buried deeply inside their mouths.

#2: Jungle Adventures & Hiking

All around the world are majestic mountaintops just begging for you to see the views they offer. Challenging both physically and mentally, it is an activity that stays off most people’s vacation itineraries. But you, you’re different. With that being said, take in some of the best hiking and natural wonders in South America—one of our favorite places to get away from it all.

South America is of course home to the Amazon. It’s the perfect place for adventurers and your hikes will be dotted with spotting wildlife, crossing bridges, reaching the tops of steep inclines and waterfalls, and even exploring local waterways. Crowded is not a thing here. You surely will be away from the crowds as well as that beaten path we keep mentioning.

#3: The Blue Holes of the Bahamas

When you think of the Bahamas, most people think of sunny skies, laid-back resorts, and their infamous islands—not some of the most interesting and challenging dive locations in the world. But, it is this part of the world where you will find unique excursions that involve what are called Blue Holes. These blue holes are naturally formed deep pockets. The deeper you go, the darker it gets.

Both mysterious and alluring, these dive spots will challenge you to let go of surface life while you plunge into the darkness below. Sure you could snorkel in the reefs, but if you really want to go the road less traveled, Blue Holes are the way to go. This option is great for experienced divers, but there are guided tours that offer guidance for beginners.

Who Needs Paths Anyways?

You know what they say, not all who wander are lost…or something like that. Really, we want you to fully express your cravings for adventure on your next vacation. You can always pack yourself in like sardines with hundreds of other tourists to experience the more popular events and adventures, or, you can get away from it all with one of the options above. Click below to find out how you can do something more adventurous and have the option to retreat to luxury amenities when you’re done.
